Konya, which was the capital of the Seljuk Turks from the end of the 11th century until the end of the 13th century, is one of the biggest cultural centers of Turkey. During this period of cultural, political, and religious development, the mystic Mevlana Celaleddin-i Rumi founded a Sufi order known in the West as Whirling Dervishes.
Mevlana's stunning green-tiled mausoleum is Konya's most famous building. The old dervish school attached to the tomb now serves as a museum with manuscripts of Mevlana's works and various works of the order related to mysticism.
